Ethnic actors Himesh Patel and Daniel Deadwyler will star in the X-Files reboot.
The reboot of the cult series "The X-Files" may star British actor of Indian descent Himesh Patel and Black actress Danielle Deadwyler, according to Deadline, citing insiders. In the original series, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson played FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.
It's noted that Patel and Deadwyler's participation has not yet been officially confirmed. However, this isn't a return of familiar characters: the actors will be portraying new ones.
Ryan Coogler, known for his work on "Black Panther" and "The Sinners," will direct and write the pilot episode. The project has already been greenlit by the streaming service Hulu. Jennifer Yale, who previously worked on "The Copenhagen Test," has been appointed showrunner. According to the synopsis, the plot centers on two very different FBI agents who unexpectedly bond after being assigned to a long-closed unit dealing with unexplained phenomena. A premiere date has not yet been announced.
35-year-old Himesh Patel rose to fame thanks to his leading role in Danny Boyle's "Yesterday." He also starred in "Tenet," "Don't Look Up," and the TV series "Black Mirror." The actor will soon appear in Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey." 43-year-old Danielle Deadwyler rose to fame after her roles in "The Harder They Fall" and "Till."
The original "X-Files" first aired in 1993 and ran for nine seasons, ending in 2002. The franchise later spawned two feature-length films, and the series returned for additional seasons in 2016 and 2018. The story follows FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigate cases involving the paranormal.
