The Istanbul Public Prosecutor's Office has issued an arrest warrant for 32-year-old "Knock on My Door" star Hande Erçel and placed her wanted in a drug case. The case also includes the actress's ex-boyfriend, billionaire Hakan Sabancı, and other celebrities. The actress has already commented on the news on social media.
"Due to my studies, I have been abroad for about a month. Last night, like you, I returned to my country to clarify the matter I learned about from the media, make the necessary statements, and give testimony. I am a person who loves my country and trusts my government and the Turkish justice system. I believe the situation will be clarified as soon as possible," wrote Hande Erçel.
A series of arrests of Turkish celebrities began last October, the same year Turkey launched its crackdown on illegal substances. Actress Birce Akalay, known for her role in the series "Black and White Love," Dogukan Günger from "Cranberry Sherbet," and İsmail Hacıoğlu from "Children of Heaven," have already been detained for questioning. The latter two were suspended from filming and stripped of their leading roles after information about the investigations leaked to the media.
As a reminder, the romance between film star Hande Erçel and 35-year-old Hakan, a member of the influential Sabancı dynasty, became public in March 2023, shortly after the actress's breakup with Kerem Bürsin, her co-star in the series "Knock on My Door." Hande and Hakan dated for about three years and broke up in 2025, despite everyone expecting the couple to marry. Rumor has it that billionaire Arzu Sabancı's mother disapproved of Hakan's choice due to Hande's public lifestyle.
Hande Erçel's career is currently at its peak: the actress has appeared on the covers of international glossy magazines such as Vogue, Bazaar, and Grazia, is an ambassador for the fashion brand Nocturne, and is a close friend of fashion houses such as Versace, Balmain, and others.
