The Delano Miami Beach is back — here's what a reopened legend costs to book
Five years after the pandemic forced it shut, the Delano is back. The 1947 art deco landmark on Collins Avenue reopened this summer as Delano Miami Beach, and The Points Guy's senior hotels reporter Tanner Saunders checked in to see whether a legend reborn could still deliver the glamour.
The short answer: yes. Dating to 1947, the original hotel hosted presidents and dignitaries before Ian Schrager and Philippe Starck reinvented it as a 1990s celebrity playground — a place that once housed a restaurant co-owned by Madonna and a nightclub from Lenny Kravitz. The new iteration promises to "honor the legacy of its predecessor while redefining it for a new era," and Saunders found 171 rooms and suites, multiple pools, beach access, a fitness center and a spa still on the way.
Where the buzz lives
The dining scene was loud before the doors even opened, thanks to the first U.S. outposts of Gigi Rigolatto and Mimi Kakushi. At Gigi, the Paris-born Italian restaurant, Saunders went straight for the showstopper: spaghetti limone e caviale, lemon-sauce spaghetti buried under 30 grams of Oscietra caviar for $135. "The pasta was rich, citrusy-sweet and balanced well with the salty caviar," he wrote.
At Mimi Kakushi, the Dubai staple now serving Japanese in Miami, the must-order is the Nara Nara ($38) — a martini whose Botanist gin is chiseled tableside from a block of ice kept at a freezing –4°F. Saunders called the umami-packed miso soup with truffle "the bar" that high the rest of the meal cleared easily.
The practical details: the hotel sits about 12 miles from Miami International Airport, so budget $25 to $45 for a rideshare. Overnight valet runs $65, and pets up to 50 pounds are welcome for a $250 fee.
What it costs
Cash rates start around $600 per night. As an Accor property, loyalty members can trade multiples of 2,000 points for about $44 off a stay. If you book an ocean-view room, request one in advance — Saunders' "partial ocean view" really leaned into the partial.
"Miami Beach has no shortage of incredible luxury hotels, but few are as storied as Delano," he concluded. "The all-new Delano Miami Beach really brought back to life a true Miami legend."
