"Actors Should Be Banned from Botox." Online Discussion About Anne Hathaway's "Lost" Facial Expressions
43-year-old actress Anne Hathaway was criticized online for her "Botox face" following the release of the trailer for Christopher Nolan's new film, "The Odyssey."
Nolan's historical drama stars some of Hollywood's most prominent stars of recent years: Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Tom Holland, Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, and Mia Goth. However, despite such a star-studded cast, it was Anne Hathaway, who plays Penelope, who drew the most attention.
Fans of the actress noticed that in the footage of Hathaway, she screams and cries, but her facial expressions remain motionless—her forehead remains perfectly smooth. This immediately sparked a negative public reaction: "The whole point of your job is to emote. You can't do that with a frozen face!", "They should ban Botox for Oscar nominations, like they ban steroids in the Olympics," "People are writing that her 'forehead doesn't move' because of Botox, and if that's true, it's another reminder of how terrible Hollywood is to women."
As a reminder, Hathaway was initially suspected of plastic surgery back in 2025 after attending a Ralph Lauren show. Her followers wrote on social media that she now had a virtually perfect, wrinkle-free face, which she likely achieved with the help of plastic surgery.
A year later, when internet users had already forgotten their assumptions, the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada" was released, starring Anne Hathaway. At the same time, as part of the film's promotional campaign, the actress posed for the cover of People magazine, which named her "the most beautiful celebrity."
