Anne Hathaway spoke out against "skinny" models on the set of "The Devil Wears Prada" sequel.
Ahead of the release of The Devil Wears Prada II, Meryl Streep spoke to a Harper's Bazaar reporter and revealed how her co-star, Anne Hathaway, pressured producers to stop using "scary-thin" actresses on camera.
76-year-old actress Meryl Streep shared her impressions of filming the sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada" with the publication. Streep said she didn't expect the overwhelming reaction from fans who regularly visited the set: "We even needed police barriers and crowd control."
Meryl admitted that Anne Hathaway surprised her most while working on the film. While filming at Milan Fashion Week, the actress noticed "too skinny" models on the runway: Anne "immediately contacted the producers and secured guarantees that the models participating in the show in the film would not be so skinny."
As a reminder, The Devil Wears Prada was released in 2006. Despite modest advertising budgets, the film became a hit. This was largely because many believed that former Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour was the inspiration for Meryl Streep's character, Miranda Priestly. Nearly 20 years after the release of the first film, the original team—director David Frankel, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, and producer Karen Rosenfelt—decided to make a sequel to the legendary project.
In the second film, Anne Hathaway, as journalist Andrea Sachs, returns to Runway magazine as senior editor, where she reconnects with her former colleague Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt. Emily is now the PR director for the luxury brand, and the future of Runway depends solely on her. The new film will be released on May 1, 2026.
