Actress Catherine O'Hara, Kevin's mother from the film "Home Alone," has died.
American actress Catherine O'Hara, best known for her role as Kevin's mother in Home Alone, has died at the age of 71. Her manager told Variety that she died on January 30 at her Los Angeles home "after a brief illness." She is survived by her husband of 33 years, Bob Welch, and two sons, Matthew and Luke.
Catherine O'Hara began her career in the 1970s on the Canadian sitcom Second City Television, which earned her her first Emmy Award. Major film projects soon followed, including the thriller After Hours and Tim Burton's cult classic Beetlejuice, but it was her role as Kate McCallister, Kevin's mother, in the Home Alone film series that brought her international fame.
Among Catherine O'Hara's most recent notable projects is her leading role in the comedy series Schitt's Creek, for which she won her second Emmy Award.
Macaulay Culkin, who, after filming the Home Alone films, considered the actress, in his own words, "like a second mother," has already reacted to the star's death: "Mom. I thought we still had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit next to you. I heard you, but I had so much to say. I love you. See you later," the actor wrote on Instagram*, sharing photos with the actress.
