"It's a religion that deprives women of all rights, and she promotes it." Emily Ratajkowski criticized for visiting a mosque in Abu Dhabi.
Emily Ratajkowski flew to Abu Dhabi for Formula 1 and also visited local attractions. The 34-year-old model shared photos of herself in front of a mosque on social media, which drew criticism from her followers.
In the new photos, Ratajkowski, who often posts revealing photos and appears in public in "naked" dresses, poses near the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in white and with her head covered.
In the comments under the post, users expressed their deep disappointment in the model. They reminded Ratajkowski that she is known for her activism on human rights issues and her feminist views, and that she allegedly stated that she would never travel to Arab countries because of human rights violations there. Meanwhile, the star is posting a sponsored photo with a mosque in the background, for which, like the trip itself, she was clearly well paid.
"It's funny that she's promoting a religion that denies women all rights," "If she wants to make money, she'll have to put on clothes," "Earn your blood money, girl!" "The UAE is currently committing genocide in Sudan and using what amounts to slavery to support the tourism industry. She was clearly paid a large sum of money for this trip and this post promoting the UAE. This is all very, very disappointing," people are writing online.
One subscriber added that he was uncomfortable not only with the content of the post, but also with the context: as if something that should be sacred was being presented as a pretty picture for the sake of status and likes on social media, and supposedly this is a typical feature of "late capitalism." "I like you, but this is cringe. And it's cringe not only because it's tonally inappropriate, but also because it perfectly illustrates how late capitalism turns even sacred traditions into aesthetic capital for the self-aggrandizement of countries in the global North."
Earlier at Formula 1, Emily Ratajkowski spent time with Jason Statham, Basta with his wife Elena Vakulenko-Pinskaya, and Oksana Samoilova.
