Elon Musk negotiated a trillion-dollar bonus for himself.
Elon Musk, 54, considered the richest man in the world, has agreed to a trillion-dollar bonus for himself.
This decision was made during the annual shareholder meeting. "Regarding the 2025 Achievement Award to our founder and CEO, Elon Musk, over 75% voted in favor. Approved," shareholders announced at a Tesla press conference.
Musk will receive the bonus only if Tesla's market capitalization grows by an additional $7.5 trillion over 10 years. The payment will be divided into several installments, each based on the company's performance. Tesla is currently worth nearly $1.5 trillion.
Some media outlets also reported that Musk threatened to leave the company in October if shareholders did not approve the payout. Sources say the sum is intended to motivate him to focus on Tesla's future growth.
Forbes previously reported that Elon Musk had become the first person in history to reach a net worth of $500 billion. The publication predicts that if Musk's business continues to grow at the same rate, he could become the first trillionaire by March 2033. Musk was criticized for the negative impact his work in the Donald Trump administration had on his business. However, he later left government.
As a reminder, Musk's departure was accompanied by a scandal with Donald Trump. The conflict began when Musk criticized the presidential administration's new economic plan, accusing the politicians who supported it of betraying the American people. Musk added that the president would have lost the election without him and supported Trump's impeachment. He later claimed that Donald was included in the files of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, convicted of sex trafficking and child molestation. In response, Trump expressed disappointment and declared Musk "crazy." Musk himself soon apologized for his comments, and their relationship subsequently improved.
Elon Musk's personal life has also been plagued by controversy. Musk has been married three times. His first wife was Canadian writer Justine Wilson. He was also married to British actress Talulah Riley and singer Grimes, with whom he currently has a dispute over their children. He has 13 children (he had 14, but the firstborn from his first marriage to Justine Wilson died in infancy from sudden infant death syndrome). Furthermore, Musk has repeatedly stated that people need to have more children to prevent population decline. According to media reports, he himself wants to populate the planet with his children.
