Kanye West's ex-girlfriend Julia Fox has been harshly criticized online for her Halloween costume. The 35-year-old actress, known for her provocative outfits, recreated the image of Jackie Kennedy, wife of 35th US President John F. Kennedy, on the day of his assassination.
Fox wore a signature pink suit, consisting of a cropped jacket and midi skirt. She completed the look with a pillbox hat and blue accessories. However, the main detail was the red splashes and streaks, simulating blood on her face and clothing.
Under the photos Julia posted on Instagram*, she explained the concept: “I dressed up as Jackie Kennedy in a pink suit—not as a masquerade, but as a statement. When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change, saying, ‘Let them see what they did.’ This contrast, the delicate pink suit and the blood, is one of the most terrifying symbols of modern history. Beauty and horror, dignity and despair. Her act was an act of courage, protest and grief at the same time. A woman who used image and grace as a weapon against cruelty. It’s a story about trauma, strength, and how femininity itself can be a form of resistance.”
However, the post didn't convince commentators. Netizens considered the costume not a tribute, but an inappropriate outrage. "This isn't art! It's just a cheap attempt at hype. I hope and pray you get the attention you deserve," "Some people are so desperate to leave their mark that they don't care if it's a stain. Imagine how the Kennedy family feels when they see this and relive that horrible day," "This is like dressing up as an ash-covered firefighter and calling it '9/11 heroism.' Some things just can't be done. It's disrespectful," "This is beyond bad taste. Ruthless, cruel, dark, and completely unacceptable. No explanation can justify it," "Turning one of the most traumatic public moments into an 'aesthetic statement' is not a comment, it's exploitation. As a reminder, John F. Kennedy was assassinated on November 22, 1963, in Dallas while driving through the city in an open car. The bullets struck the president as he rode next to his wife. Jackie Kennedy, covered in her husband's blood, refused to change and told her aides, "No. Let them see what they did to Jack (as Kennedy was known in the family when he was little – Ed.)." Her pink Chanel suit, which has never been washed since, became one of the most iconic images of the 20th century. It is now kept in the National Archives in Maryland.
