"When you get the diagnosis, it's shocking." Charles III returned to royal duties and spoke about his health
Charles III returned to his royal duties. He began with a visit to the Macmillan Cancer Center at University College Hospital in London, which is symbolic, because His Majesty was also recently diagnosed with cancer, which is why he temporarily stopped appearing in public.
Together with his wife, Queen Camilla, the British monarch greeted the citizens gathered at the center, after which he talked with doctors and patients of the medical facility. Answering questions, he said that his health was quite satisfactory: “I’m fine, thank you very much, not that bad. It's always a bit of a shock when you get a diagnosis, isn't it?”
Sky News, citing a representative of Buckingham Palace, reported that Charles III continues to undergo treatment, but the doctors are already satisfied with the result achieved, which is why the king can again begin to fulfill his public duty. Speaking with one of the patients, 63-year-old Leslie Woodbridge, Charles III said that immediately after the event he would have to undergo another therapy session.
The king also spoke with those who had lost loved ones due to cancer. So, 69-year-old John Lowry, a longtime admirer of the royal family from South London, told the monarch that he lost his partner Marion due to skin cancer more than twenty years ago. According to John, he “knows exactly what the king and queen are going through.” The man expressed gratitude to the monarch for not hiding his diagnosis, because this could encourage many people to undergo diagnostics, and earlier diagnosis of the disease in the case of oncology is especially important.
Lowry also added that he is praying for the Princess of Wales. Let us remember that Kate Middleton stopped appearing in public at the end of last year, after abdominal surgery. Her sudden disappearance from the radar gave rise to many conspiracy theories, and as a result, widespread panic forced Kate to issue an official statement in which she announced that she, too, had been diagnosed with cancer.
