Ariana Grande chopped her ponytail into a glossy flicked-out bob
There are few celebrity beauty signatures as enduring as Ariana Grande’s gravity-defying ponytail. Now it’s officially on pause. The singer has chopped it all off, swapping years of waist-length hair for a sleek, jaw-grazing bob cut to one length with flicked-out ends, a deep side part, and a glossy chocolate-brown finish.
“The ponytail is taking a hiatus,” wrote hairstylist Brandon Pietsch on Instagram, alongside photos of the new look. Pietsch — who regularly works with Grande, as well as Rose and Megan Fox — handled both the cut and the color. The rest of the beauty look leaned just as sweet: extra-long dark lashes, straight brows, a soft wash of pink blush, a touch of highlight across the cheeks and nose, and a deep-set French manicure.
It’s a sharp departure from her recent outings. As far back as January’s Golden Globes, Grande traded an icy blonde for chestnut hair pulled into a dense full ponytail with a sweeping side bang. On the Eternal Sunshine tour she kept her hair slicked into ballerina buns and flowing ponytails, finished with ribbons, scrunchies, or Alice bands. The one constant, until now, was the length.
The bob everyone’s already wearing
Grande is in good company. The flippy bob has become a celebrity mainstay, with Hailey Bieber, Nara Smith, and Gigi Hadid all making a case for the swishy, flicked-out cut. Vogue calls it versatile, transeasonal, and endlessly flattering — a nostalgic sweetness that fits Grande’s ultra-feminine, romantic aesthetic, but with plenty of room for personal interpretation.
As fall gives way to winter, the flicked-out bob only gets more appealing: easy polish with relatively little fuss. A good smoothing cream, a heated brush or iron to turn out the ends, and you’re done. For Grande, whose ponytail has long been as recognizable as her voice, the new look is a playful departure that stays true to her vibe. The ponytail may only be on hiatus — but Bobiana is making a strong case for an extended stay.
