Rumer Willis showed herself breastfeeding her three-year-old daughter. She was criticized.
Rumer Willis has come under fire after sharing a video of herself breastfeeding her three-year-old daughter.
On social media, 37-year-old Rumer posted footage of herself feeding Louetta, interspersed with videos of the young woman explaining the need to assert her boundaries. "When someone starts criticizing my parenting methods," Rumer captioned the video.
While some users supported her, many of her followers criticized Rumer. Some expressed dissatisfaction not with the breastfeeding itself, but with the "intimate content" on social media. Others expressed outrage that a child who can already chew a steak doesn't need to be breastfed. A popular opinion also claimed that at three years old, a child needs to psychologically separate from their mother, and that prolonged breastfeeding is a manifestation of Rumer's own insecurities.
"By posting your personal moments with your daughter, you're making it public," "This non-baby is justifying her weird behavior. Keep infantilizing your child," "The baby can already chew steak. It's time to stop breastfeeding," "Have you ever heard of a glass?" people write.
It's worth noting that this isn't the first time Rumer has been criticized for behavior that doesn't fit within the accepted norm. She recently revealed on social media that she still takes baths with her sisters.
Louetta's father is singer Derek Richard Thomas, to whom Rumer was married from 2020 to 2024. Since her divorce, Rumer has periodically spoken about what it's like to be a single mother. Last February, for example, she posted a video of her to-do list, which included household chores, self-care, and caring for her daughter. "I work four different jobs to provide for my daughter," she wrote on her Stories*, describing herself as the sole breadwinner and noting that she receives no money from a trust fund or her parents. Rumer also stated that she is "very aware" of her "privileges in life" and does not live her life "with family support as a backup plan."
Rumer is the eldest of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's three daughters. The couple divorced in 2000 after 13 years of marriage. In 2009, the actor remarried, to model Emma Heming, who is 23 years younger than Willis. They had two more daughters. In 2023, the actor was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. Recently, the wife of 71-year-old Willis announced that she is ready for her husband's funeral.
