Footballer Dani Alves sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for rape
The Supreme Court of Catalonia sentenced Brazilian football player Dani Alves, one of the most titled in the world, to 4.5 years in prison for rape. He must also pay the injured girl 150 thousand euros. This was reported by Reuters.
The incident occurred in 2022 at the Barcelona nightclub Sutton. The athlete dragged his victim into the toilet, where he molested the girl and put his hands under her clothes, forced her to have oral sex and raped her. The girl stated that she did not consent to sex. She told the establishment’s security guards about what had happened, but the football player had already left by that time.
Alves was arrested in January 2023. At first, the football player denied that he had ever met the girl, then he said that they had sex, but by mutual consent, and the girl herself went with him. He added that he lied the first time because he did not want information about his sex with another woman to be made public, in an effort to save his marriage to his wife, Spanish model Joana Sanz. Immediately after his arrest, she filed for divorce. Alves himself wants to challenge the court's decision and plans to appeal.
