Taco Bell's Birthday Cake Empanada arrives Oct 15 — fans are split
Taco Bell is putting birthday cake inside a fried shell, and the internet cannot agree on whether that is genius or a mistake. The chain's new Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada lands nationwide on October 15 at participating locations, for a limited time and only while supplies last.
The dessert is a crispy, golden empanada filled with cake-batter-flavored filling, finished with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles. It marks the third Taco Bell and Milk Bar team-up: the two brands first paired in 2022 on Strawberry Bell Truffles, then released Birthday Cake Churros in 2025. After cake truffles and churros, an empanada was the obvious next step.
Fans are already fighting about it
The empanada was first teased at this year's Live Más LIVE event, and reactions have been loud ever since. "The Birthday Cake Empanada looks delicious," one fan wrote, while another said it is "very dangerous for a birthday cake freak like me." A third kept it simple: "Omfg Milk Bar is so God damn good."
Plenty of people are using the moment to beg for the last collab to return. "Bring back the Milk Bar churros," one commenter wrote, and another doubled down with "Bring back the birthday cake churros!!"
The skeptics are just as vocal. "Barf," one Reddit user wrote, and another called the idea "nauseating." One person compared it to the chain's Cinnabon Delights, arguing those work because they are small enough to finish in one bite, while the empanada is "probably too much of that frosting flavor." Another summed up the doubt: "That sounds amazing on paper. But I'm pretty confident it will be gross after taking one or two bites."
There is one extra reason to mark your calendar. From October 15 through October 28, Taco Bell Rewards members with a birthday in that window can choose a free Milk Bar Birthday Cake Empanada or a regular Mountain Dew Baja Blast Freeze as their birthday reward, as long as the date is on their profile. The empanada vanishes when supplies run out, so the only real answer to the debate arrives on October 15.
