Critically panned series starring Meghan Markle and Prince Harry premieres on Netflix
A documentary series featuring Meghan Markle and Prince Harry has premiered on Netflix. The documentary Polo, produced by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, was previously criticized.
The couple made a cameo appearance in the fifth series of the show, which follows the sport's elite, where Meghan showed off her Spanish skills. The Duchess of Sussex, 43, told polo star Alfonso Cambiaso that she trained in the Argentine capital 20 years ago. "I lived there about 20 years ago. In Palermo Viejo," Markle said in Spanish.
The new Netflix series, which the Sussexes are executive producers on as part of their multi-million pound streaming deal, has previously come under fire, with reports that executives were disappointed by Harry and Meghan's limited screen time, and a Daily Mail source claiming that film bosses were expecting "more bang for their buck". Experts say "what Netflix got in return doesn't look great" and is "a huge disappointment for Netflix".
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle signed a five-year content production deal with Netflix in September 2020 — the deal was valued at least $80 million. The couple's first project was the documentary series Harry & Meghan, which was released on Netflix in December 2022 and turned out to be quite successful. At the same time, the shows Unconquered Heart and Live to Lead were considered failures. Experts have previously stated that the Dukes of Sussex were unable to achieve success in Hollywood on their own.
