Where Verity was filmed: the real New York spots behind the thriller
The Vermont mansion at the center of Verity never left New York state. Production designer Amy Williams told Condé Nast Traveler that the Crawford family home is actually the Beckoning Path house in Armonk, a private wellness retreat in Westchester County, while the film's smaller scenes jump between real bookshops, restaurants and bars across Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens.
Start with the bookshop: Lowen's opening reading was shot at Books Are Magic in Carroll Gardens, where you can still buy Colleen Hoover's novels even if the fictional Lowen Ashleigh's titles never reach the shelves. The fatal crash and meet-cute with Jeremy (Josh Hartnett) use the corner of Park Avenue and East 41st Street, a block from Grand Central. Williams said the crew "instantly attracted paparazzi" on one of Midtown's busiest corners.
The Hachette Book Group office scenes were shot at Hoover's real publisher. "That was actually at Colleen Hoover's publisher, which was kind of incredible that they gave us access," Williams said, adding a bonus for fans: Hoover herself cameos as the office receptionist.
The food stops
Lowen's dinner meeting with her agent was filmed at Rolo's in Ridgewood, the wood-fired spot known for its polenta bread and homemade pasta. Her birthday dinner went to Zum Stammtisch, a Bavarian pub in Glendale. In the book it's an Italian place, but Williams swapped it after finding the Queens restaurant near their soundstage. "Our director of photography actually was a background waiter in lederhosen," she said, and she recommends the pretzels.
The flashback where Verity and Jeremy first meet was shot at Laissez Faire, the cocktail lounge inside the Beekman Hotel in the Financial District — chosen partly for the back-alley exit that lets them slip into a waiting limousine.
For the "Vermont" house, location manager Elizabeth Krekel was hunting for "something modern and ominous because that's how it's written." The Beckoning Path estate, designed by Danish sculptor Jens Quinsgaard, delivered angular architecture, V-shaped windows, a pool, a tai chi studio and a real lake for the canoe scene. The office — part "womb-like," feminine space and part villain's lair — was rebuilt on a soundstage with mirrors that slide open into bookcases.
