The son of Mango's founder has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his father.
The son of Mango founder and billionaire Isak Andic, who died in the mountains in 2024 under mysterious circumstances, has been arrested in Spain on suspicion of murdering his father, El País reports.
Jonathan, 45, had already been under investigation for some time in a case that was kept secret, and Catalan police are examining the contents of his phone. The Andic family, for their part, has already stated that he is testifying "as part of the proceedings" and that his cooperation with the judicial system "has been and will remain absolute."
71-year-old Isak Andic died while hiking in the mountains of Montserrat. He was accompanied by only Jonathan, the eldest of his three children and considered the primary heir to the family fortune. It was Jonathan who called the police, reporting that his father had accidentally fallen off a cliff to his death.
Investigators determined that Andik Sr. fell from a height of over 100 meters and initially treated the incident as a simple accident. However, the case took a new turn when contradictions were discovered in Jonathan's statements. Police discovered, in particular, that he had been on the same route several days before the incident. His lawyers, however, claim he was simply preparing for the trip.
The investigation confirmed that father and son had conflicts, particularly over Jonathan's role in company management. Isak Andik decided to hand over the reins to him in 2014, but was forced to return to the helm a year later to form a new team and revive the company. This strained the relationship between them.
After Andik's death, relations within his family also deteriorated. His girlfriend and children began arguing over the inheritance (the businessman's fortune was estimated at $4.5 billion, making him one of the five richest men in Spain). According to his will, the businessman's inheritance was to be divided among his three children. He also left €5 million to his girlfriend, 52-year-old former professional golfer Estefanía Knut, with whom he had been intimate for the seven years prior to his death. However, Knut deemed this amount insufficient and demanded €70 million. After lengthy negotiations, Andik's children and Knut reached a preliminary agreement to pay her approximately €30 million. Interestingly, it was Estefanía who told investigators about the businessman's conflicts with her son, which became one of the leads in the case.
