"More than anyone in history." Elon Musk paid a record $10 billion in taxes this year.
Elon Musk claimed he paid more taxes in one year than "anyone in history." According to the world's richest man, the total exceeded $10 billion.
"I paid over $10 billion in taxes in one year – more than anyone in history," the 54-year-old entrepreneur wrote on his social media account.
Musk explained that if he were to exercise and sell his stock options, his combined federal and state income tax rate would be approximately 45%. He also added that he continues to pay taxes to the state of California for every day he is there.
Moreover, the Tesla CEO mentioned the approximately 40% inheritance tax that will be levied upon his death. "In total, I'll likely pay trillions of dollars in taxes," the businessman concluded.
As a reminder, Elon Musk ranks first on Forbes' list of the world's richest people, with a net worth of $839 billion—an all-time record. He previously became the first billionaire to reach $500 billion, $600 billion, and $700 billion, and experts predict he could become the first trillionaire in history. Musk recently shared his thoughts on happiness: "Whoever said 'money can't buy happiness' actually knew what they were talking about."
