An anonymous person paid off the 175 million ruble debt owed by cancer patient Lerchek to the tax authorities.
The tax debt of cancer-stricken blogger Lerchek (real name: Valeria Chekalina) was covered by an anonymous person. The lawyers refused to disclose who exactly transferred the 175 million rubles, but it was definitely not Lerchek, RIA Novosti reports.
The very fact of repaying the debt was a significant legal milestone for Lerchek, who was diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer and recently gave birth to her fourth child. The day before, the court ordered the blogger's release from house arrest, replacing the preventive measure with a ban on certain activities. Furthermore, the criminal case against Lerchek was separated into a separate proceeding and suspended until she recovers.
As a reminder, Lerchek's diagnosis was announced in early March. Immediately after the birth of her son, she was admitted to the oncology intensive care unit, and her boyfriend, Louis Squicciarini, confirmed that she had been diagnosed with stage four stomach cancer with metastases in her spine, legs, and lungs. Valeria has already begun chemotherapy and radiation therapy. In her first video after the diagnosis, she addressed her followers: "I really want to live—and I will live!"
While fighting for her life, Chekalina remains a defendant in a high-profile criminal case. Along with her ex-husband, Artyom Chekalin, and their former business partner, Roman Vishnyak (who was previously sentenced to two and a half years in prison), she is accused of illegally transferring over 250 million rubles abroad, earned from the sale of fitness marathons, using forged documents. Artyom's case, unlike Valeria's, is ongoing.
