Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline has spoken out about her arrest following a "protracted breakdown" for which he is blamed.

Britney Spears' ex-husband Kevin Federline has commented on her arrest for drunk driving amid online accusations that he is personally responsible for the singer's latest "breakdown."

Federline, 47, told reporters he's concerned that what happened to Spears won't be an isolated incident. "Kevin wishes Britney the best, and if she needs help, he hopes she won't resist it or anyone trying to cooperate with her. The question is whether what happened to her is an isolated incident or whether it could happen again in the future," Kevin's attorney, Mark Vincent, said in a statement published by TMZ.

Kaplan also said he had been in contact with Spears' lawyer since her arrest, but that neither he nor his client had any further information beyond what had already been published in the media.

Shortly after 44-year-old Spears's arrest, a source close to her told Page Six that it was Federline's tell-all memoir that led to her legal troubles. The source claimed his book, "You Thought You Knew," which was released in October 2025, sent the singer "into a tailspin." "In recent months, her behavior has become even more erratic, and it was Kevin's book that really set her off, and everything has gone downhill since then. It's had a profound impact on her emotional state," the source told the publication.

Britney Spears was recently arrested for drunk driving after her BMW was spotted swerving on the highway. Police suspected the singer may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol, after which she was taken to the hospital for a medical examination. She was released three hours after her arrest. A source close to the situation told reporters that an unknown substance was found in Spears's car, which is currently being processed at a lab for analysis. The singer is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.

Britney Spears's arrest came five months after Federline published a book alleging her drug abuse. The former dancer claimed the singer used cocaine while breastfeeding their two sons and frequently exhibited "inappropriate behavior," such as standing in her sons' bedroom doorway at night with a knife.

Spears has denied all of Federline's allegations and accused her ex-husband of "profiting from her suffering" with his memoir.

A few days after Federline's book was published, Spears was spotted driving erratically on the highway after visiting a restaurant. The following month, she caused concern when she was seen leaving another restaurant with a glass of champagne in hand.

Against the backdrop of what is happening to her now, Spears sold the rights to her songs for $200 million.
