Bill Clinton will testify before Congress in the case of billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
Former US President Bill Clinton, 79, and his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, have agreed to testify before Congress regarding the scandalous case of billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, The Washington Post reports.
It is reported that the Clintons agreed to testify under oath behind closed doors. Both took this step after Republicans in Congress threatened to hold them in contempt of the legislature. This could have resulted in criminal prosecution, large fines, and even imprisonment for up to a year. The Clintons had previously resisted subpoenas for six months.
The House committee's investigation into high-ranking officials' ties to the late financier Epstein, accused of sex trafficking, is underway. Lawmakers want answers to questions about Bill Clinton's visit to Epstein's private island and the nature of their personal relationship, which appear in the case files.
The declassification of court documents (the so-called "Epstein lists") is currently ongoing. They contain the names of influential politicians, businessmen, and celebrities who visited his private island. Among them are US President Donald Trump, disgraced Prince Andrew, the world's richest man, Elon Musk, and Michael Jackson. The documents also contain the names of Russians. For example, mentions of businessman Umar Dzhabrailov and correspondence with Roman Rotenberg's ex-wife were found. Being on the list itself does not imply guilt, but investigators are investigating which guests knew about the crimes.
Epstein was an American multimillionaire financier who belonged to the highest echelons of the global elite. For decades, investigators believe he orchestrated a massive human trafficking ring. He allegedly lured underage girls into prostitution (some of the victims may have been Russians), abused them, and used their services to blackmail his influential friends or strengthen their connections.
In 2019, Epstein was arrested, but he was soon found dead in his prison cell. The official death was a suicide, but numerous oddities (disconnected cameras, sleeping guards) have led to widespread theories that he was assassinated to prevent him from talking. His longtime accomplice and former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, was found guilty of aiding and abetting the murder and sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022.
