Julio Iglesias responds to allegations of sexual assault
Julio Iglesias, who was previously accused of sexual assault by two former employees, responded to the allegations. The 82-year-old singer called them "absolutely false."
"It is with deep sorrow that I respond to the allegations made by two individuals who previously worked in my home. I deny having ever abused, coerced, or disrespected any woman. These allegations are completely false and cause me great sadness," Iglesias said in a statement posted on his Instagram account*.
The singer noted that he had never experienced such injustice before, but added that he "still has the strength to tell people the whole truth and defend my dignity in the face of such a serious insult." Concluding his post, Iglesias added that he had received numerous messages of support from his fans and thanked them for it.
As a reminder, it was previously reported that Iglesias's housekeeper and physiotherapist filed a complaint against him with the Spanish prosecutor's office. The women reported that they had been subjected to harassment and insults by the singer for approximately a year. According to them, the incidents occurred in 2021 in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, where they were accompanying the then 77-year-old star.
One woman alleged multiple instances of sexualized violence, both penetrative and non-penetrative. "He used me almost every night. I felt like an object, a slave," the media reported the alleged victim as saying. Another woman reported that Iglesias kissed her on the lips, touched her breasts against her will, and committed other inappropriate acts.
Julio Iglesias is the most commercially successful Spanish-language artist. He has eight children from two marriages, including Enrique Iglesias, who followed in his father's footsteps and also became a singer (he is now married to Russian tennis player Anna Kournikova). Julio Iglesias's youngest child was born when he was 63.
