Lily Collins' husband hits back at critics after revealing his and the actress' first child was born via surrogate
Lily Collins' husband, 35, director Charlie McDowell, 41, has responded to the criticism he and the actress faced after announcing that their first child was born via a surrogate mother.
Many online have condemned the way Lily and Charlie became parents. Some wrote that “buying children” is immoral. Others - that Lily is young enough to give birth on her own. Some have suggested that the actress simply did not want to ruin her figure so as not to put her career on hold. McDowell responded to all these comments and theories on his social networks.
“It’s okay to not be an expert on surrogacy. It’s okay to not know why someone would want to use a surrogate to have a baby. It’s okay to not know the motives behind surrogacy and only believe what you think. And it’s okay to spend less time spewing hate into the world, especially toward a beautiful baby girl who has brought so much love into people’s lives,” Charlie wrote, adding that he couldn’t dwell on the topic anymore because his daughter needed a diaper change.
The birth of little Tova Jane McDowell was announced yesterday. Lily and Charlie announced it by posting a photo of their daughter. This is the first child for both spouses, who got married in 2021.
