"One producer told me I was a 'popcorn' actress." Demi Moore wins her first award as an actress
Demi Moore, 62, gave a speech on stage after accepting the award for best actress for her role in the film "Substance." She said she did not expect to receive the statuette, adding that this was her first award for acting.
"I really didn't expect it. I'm just in shock right now. I've been doing this for 45 years and this is the first time I've won anything as an actress. I'm humbled and so grateful," she said.
"A producer told me 30 years ago that I was a popcorn actress, and I realized that was my limit. That I could do movies that would be successful and make a lot of money, but I wouldn't get recognition, and I believed that. Over time, it ate away at me to the point where a few years ago I thought maybe this is it, I've done all I can."
The body horror film Substance has become one of the most controversial films of the year. The film tells the story of an aging Hollywood star who takes a black market drug that creates a younger version of herself with unexpected side effects.
