FKA Twigs Sues Shia LaBeouf for $10 Million Over Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Assault
FKA Twigs is suing her ex-boyfriend, actor Shia LaBeouf, for $10 million in damages. The singer claims that the Transformers star deliberately infected her with a venereal disease during their relationship and subjected her to sexual, physical, and emotional abuse, InTouch reports.
The singer and actor's relationship began in 2018 and lasted less than a year. In an interview with Vogue, FKA Twigs called their romance "the worst thing she's ever had to go through in her life." In 2020, the 36-year-old celebrity filed a lawsuit against LaBeouf, but the case has only just begun to be heard.
In her statement, the singer said she suffered $10 million in damages, including lost professional opportunities, amid the painful breakup. She claims she was forced to delay the release of her new album "due to emotional distress," ultimately losing more than $1 million by not finishing the record before touring.
FKA Twigs also asked the court to examine the actor's phone. She wants experts to determine whether there are messages mentioning her that LaBeouf allegedly sent to third parties. FKA claims that Shia did not hand over any messages to the court because he deleted them before the case began. The actor himself noted that he handed over everything that was required of him.
A lawyer for Shia LaBeouf, 38, issued a statement: "FKA claims that her album was delayed due to emotional distress and that she lost over $1 million as a result. She has provided no justification for this alleged delay, no reason for it, nor that she would have earned an additional $1 million by releasing the album earlier. She also claims that Shia caused her to lose contracts, which resulted in lost professional opportunities. In connection with her alleged severe emotional distress, the singer has filed medical bills from a therapist Dave J Hogan/Getty Images for BFI totaling $4,100."
He added that "contrary to her claims, in the years since her relationship with Shia, she appears to have increased her popularity and her career appears to be thriving."
The lawyer recalled that in 2019, FKA Twigs released one of her most famous hits, Cellophane, and at the end of the year, the album Magdalene, which became successful. She also held a world tour in support of the album. "The singer's work schedule, contracts and economic success are in direct contradiction with the fact that someone was allegedly injured by Shia's alleged actions," the lawyer noted.
Shia LaBeouf says his ex-girlfriend has refused to provide him with the financial documents he requested. He also told the court that a $10 million judgment would be "financially ruinous" for him.
FKA Twigs' attorney claims that LaBeouf has given numerous interviews since the split, where he has confirmed that he hurt the singer, as well as his other girlfriends. "Given the clearly questionable position the actor has taken, it is in the best interest of all parties to allow the court to review his phone and confirm whether there are any messages that are defaming the singer," the lawyer said.
The court has not yet made its decision and continues to consider the case. Recall that after breaking up with Shia LaBeouf, FKA Twigs stated that during their relationship, the actor emotionally manipulated her, forced her to cut off contact with friends and family and follow a list of his rules. The singer spoke about an incident when he hit her against a car and tried to strangle her. Once, according to the artist, Shia pulled out a gun while driving and threatened to kill stray dogs.
Shia LaBeouf is currently married to 30-year-old actress Mia Goth, whom he met on the set of Nymphomaniac in 2012. The couple got married in Las Vegas in 2016, but split up two years later. The couple became parents in 2022. A co-star recently accused Goth of violence, claiming that she first almost stepped on him and then intentionally kicked him in the head.
