"We Will Never Hire a White Male." Disney At Center of Racism Scandal
Disney is embroiled in a racial discrimination scandal. The company's senior vice president has admitted that they practice discrimination against people based on skin color and do not hire white men.
Well-known US journalist and provocateur James O'Keefe organized a meeting between his employee and Disney Senior Vice President Michael Giordano. The woman filmed the conversation with a hidden camera, which Michael Giordano did not know about. James O'Keefe published the recording on the X* network, which everyone remembers as Twitter*. In it, the Disney Senior Vice President stated that the company intentionally does not hire white male writers and actors: "I have friends in HR, and they say, 'No one else will tell you this, but they are not considering any white male for this position. There is no way we are hiring a white male.'"
He also said that they once turned down a black candidate because they thought he was "not black enough." He noted that they are very careful about communicating such things to their talent agents to avoid discrimination lawsuits. The company even developed a special code that changes the word "white" to "straight" or "an actor who does not bring diversity."
Michael Giordano also stated that up to 15% of the population are LGBT* representatives and "it just so happens" that there are about 35% of them on the staff of Disney's head writers. That is why they have recently started releasing many stories with LGBT* heroes.
The published video has spread widely across the Internet, even Elon Musk has responded to it. Now Michael Giordano has deleted his LinkedIn account, the company has offered him to take a "vacation", most likely he will be fired after such a scandal. The company itself has not yet commented on the scandal.
It is worth noting that scandals related to discrimination are not uncommon for Disney: its founder himself was sexist and did not hire female animators on principle, the company was accused of justifying slavery because of the cartoon "Uncle Remus Tales", and in 2018, the company's chief creative producer John Lasseter resigned after being accused of harassment: nine former employees said that the company created a sexist atmosphere in which it was difficult for women to build a career.
