The daughter of Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, Maya, admitted that her “baby-child” status helped her in her career and condemned her old interview, in which she denied it
The daughter of Hollywood actors Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, Maya, admitted in a new interview with The Times that her status as a “non-child” - a privileged child of rich and famous parents - helped her advance in her career. She denounced her old interview with the Hollywood Reporter, in which she stated otherwise.
In that interview, Maya said she got the role in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood through "the usual channels." That is, her agents found this opportunity for her to participate in the audition, after which she recorded a video at home for a remote casting (with which her dad helped her) and sent the recording to Quentin, and after some time they called her back.
Now Maya has rethought her statement and said that she should have chosen her words more carefully: “I was laughed at after this video from the red carpet where I said that I participated in the audition. But I didn’t mean that I got the role solely because of my forces. I think this definitely happened due to nepotism."
The actress chuckled when a reporter for The Times said she "deserved" her success because she had put in so much effort, from appearing in school plays to studying at the renowned art and music school Juilliard School in New York.
“There are many people in the world who deserve such a life, but they don’t have it,” Maya answered the journalist. “But I think I've come to terms with the fact that I can not deserve something and still do it.” I know that if I give it up, it won’t help anyone.” She recalled that when she began her journey in acting, she even thought about changing her name and getting rhinoplasty in order to go to open castings. But now she just accepted that she was lucky. In addition, according to Maya, her “positive and honest” relationship with her parents is much more important than who thinks what about her.
Probably, the parents of the young star really influenced many of her views. In particular, Ethan Hawke recently said that he understands the criticism of viewers towards the privileged children of stars, but at the same time he is not ashamed of being a “non-dad”.
Children of stars have recently been often criticized for the fact that they achieve success through connections and do not always admit it. Thus, the daughter of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Lily-Rose, was criticized by the public, who stated that her achievements were the result of her own efforts.
