Renee Zellweger and Hugh Grant will return to their roles in the fourth Bridget Jones film

Renee Zellweger will again play Bridget Jones - Universal Pictures and Working Title have announced the start of work on the film, which is called "Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy." It has now become known who was included in the cast of the film, except for the main actress.

In particular, it is reported that Hugh Grant will return, who played the role of Daniel Cleaver in the first two films about Bridget Jones, but did not appear in the third part. It is not yet very clear how the writers will resurrect him. It is reported that Emma Thompson will also return - she played the main character's midwife. Also included in the casting are Chiwetel Ejiofor from Doctor Strange and Leo Woodall from the Netflix series White Lotus. But Colin Firth is not included in the cast: according to rumors, his hero will die.

It is planned that the film will be released in 2025, with the release date set for Valentine's Day - February 14.

The new Bridget Jones series will be directed by Michael Morris. The film is based on the novel of the same name, which Helen Fielding published in 2013. The writer announced that they were going to film it back in 2022.

Note that 54-year-old Zellweger was nominated for an Oscar for her role as Bridget Jones in the first film, which was released in 2001, but ultimately did not receive the statuette: it was taken by Julia Roberts for the film “Traffic.” Nevertheless, the film was received with great warmth by both critics and viewers, and the role in many ways became decisive for the actress.

The first film was a resounding success, in the wake of which a sequel was released in 2004. It was called "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason", and after another 12 years the film "Bridget Jones: The Child" was released. In this part, the main character never married Mr. Darcy, and besides, his slender colleague Rebecca appears on the horizon. This was the reason for separation, but, as the writers decided, it did not put an end to their relationship.

The third film was the least successful of the series at the worldwide box office, although it received much more positive reviews than the second. Hugh Grant refused to participate in the third part of the film, as he felt that the plot strayed too far from the original.
