Jessica Biel wrote a children's book about menstruation
This spring, Penguin Random House will release a children's book about menstruation by Jessica Biel. The actress herself announced this on her Instagram*.
Jessica’s literary debut is called “A Children’s Book About Menstruation,” and the work will be included in the Penguin Random House “Children’s Book About” series. Speaking to People, the actress explained that she wanted to do her part to combat the stigma of talking about periods with younger generations: “People don't talk about periods enough. I have always been a firm believer in the need to normalize discussion of this topic. I'm a parent myself, and writing this book seemed like a natural way to engage kids in this conversation from a very young age.”
According to Beale, her goal was to give children the necessary knowledge about how their bodies change with age, and also to inspire them to discuss, which, according to the actress, should be perceived as something completely natural. The star will release the book in collaboration with the non-profit organization Period, which also fights the stigma of menstruation through education and advocacy. Part of the proceeds (5%) from the sale of the book will go to the needs of this organization.
Earlier in March, Jessica posted a video on Instagram* in which she talked about the first time she got her period - it happened right before she participated in a school play. According to Beale, she was scared and shocked: “I locked myself in the bathroom and cried hysterically. I called my mom and told her that “something strange” was happening. That's exactly how I felt, like there was something wrong with me. Even though she prepared me for this day, I was not ready.”
Presenting her book, the actress also said that if adults begin to confidently talk about how the human body works, then children will be able to communicate more freely on similar topics and share what is happening to them.
Let's remember that Jessica Biel has two sons, 8-year-old Silas and 3-year-old Phineas, with Justin Timberlake, who was recently hounded online because of Britney Spears' memoirs. In them, the singer admitted that she had an abortion after learning that she was pregnant from Justin, who was not ready to become a father.
“A Children's Book About Menstruation” will hit bookstore shelves on May 7.
