How youth-obsessed IT millionaire Brian Johnson abandoned his cancer-stricken fiancée and left him penniless
Vanity Fair magazine published a detailed article about the famous IT millionaire Brian Jones, obsessed with the idea of eternal youth and immortality. Brian's name often appears in the media not only because of the extreme measures that a man takes to preserve his “18-year-old body,” but also in connection with his scandalous personal life. Thus, the press covered in detail Brian’s difficult relationship with Taryn Southern, with whom he broke up when she was battling stage three breast cancer, and who subsequently sued him, but lost it and was left in debt to her ex-fiancé.
The fight for eternal youth
The Vanity Fair columnist notes in her article that during the video call, Johnson reminded her of either an “animated porcelain doll” or “a digitized Dorian Gray with headphones.” The millionaire managed to achieve this effect with the help of a strict regime and constant monitoring by doctors. Brian usually wakes up around 4:30 a.m. and his day begins with standard measurements of body fat, muscle mass, and temperature. Sometimes a man undergoes an MRI. He recently started taking follistatin, a therapy that has been shown to extend the lifespan of mice. Before his workout, Johnson drinks a health shake and takes about 60 pills (drugs for arteries and skin, to prevent intestinal polyps, and others), and then for an hour he does about 30 different exercises using a high-frequency electromagnetic stimulation device - which he says allows him to do 20,000 squats in 30 minutes.
Carefully thought out breakfast and lunch - at 9:00 and 11:00 (the diet consists of a vegetarian menu, the composition of which changes depending on the tests), after which about 40 more tablets. Then fast and sleep strictly at 8:30 pm. 30 doctors live with Brian and constantly monitor his health in all respects. The millionaire is taken pictures of the intestines (there are already 33,537 of them), the thickness of the carotid artery and heart rate are examined, the pelvic floor is stimulated with electromagnetic impulses, and his erections are recorded at night. Johnson takes special care of his penis - three times a week he undergoes genital rejuvenation therapy, which includes electrical discharges (it turned out that due to this, nighttime erections increase from 2 hours 12 minutes to 3 hours 30 minutes).
“Anyone who thinks there is any limit to how long we can live doesn’t know what they’re talking about,” Johnson told Vanity Fair.
Personal life
Considering the lifestyle that Brian leads, it is not difficult to guess that it is not so easy for him to build his personal life. The New York Post article stated that Johnson's dating profile description began with the words "Proceed with caution." On his social media page, Johnson posted a number of requirements for a potential partner, which include “scheduled sex” and acceptance of the fact that “the girl is not the main priority.” In one of the interviews, the millionaire said that he prefers to be honest and warn in advance about the negative aspects of a relationship with him. However, Brian still managed to build a long and strong relationship with Taryn Southern - which, however, ended in scandal.
Meet Taryn
When she met Johnson, Taryn was already a famous YouTube blogger and the founder of her own consulting company, Happy Cat Media. She was invited as a speaker at technology conferences, and she also worked as a correspondent and herself produced episodes of programs on Today and the Discovery Channel. Johnson was the first to show interest in Southern. He found a girl on social networks and, according to Taryn’s friends, began to actively pursue her. He took her to Lake Tahoe, quickly introduced her to his three children, and soon the couple began living together. One of Southern’s friends called the millionaire’s actions “love bombing.” Even then they suspected that this would lead to problems in the future, and they soon had significant reasons for concern.
Troubled relationships
What started out as a beautiful love story soon turned into a story about a highly controversial relationship. It all started with Johnson gradually making Southern completely financially dependent on him. He convinced the girl to give up her previous job and start developing his personal brand. Taryn wrote speeches for Brian, created presentations, developed his media projects - for this she received about 20 thousand dollars a year, which is significantly less than what she earned through her own business (about 388 thousand dollars a year). Johnson also forced Southern to remove her most popular YouTube videos, which had millions of views, because they were, in his opinion, “harmful to his image,” and to sell a property in Los Angeles that took Southern “too much of her time” to rent out.
Subsequently, Brian's control over Taryn's life only worsened: he read all of her mail and correspondence; demanded a list of all ex-boyfriends and a description of his sexual experiences with them in order to avoid potential “reputational risks.” At the same time, Johnson himself soon told Southern that he needed to have sex with other women and, explaining everything by the need to be honest with his partner, told Taryn about his “adventures.” He once brought a prostitute to a room at the Bowery Hotel in New York and had sex with her in the presence of Taryn while she pretended to be asleep.
Separation and trial
The breakup of her relationship with Brian came as a surprise to Taryn. She was battling cancer when Johnson suddenly announced he was breaking up with her. According to the girl, her lover did not support her at all when she found out about her trouble, and referred to her illness as a “bad deal.” He also said that Taryn “uses cancer as an excuse to make everything revolve around her.” When they separated, Johnson insisted that Southern move out on her own because “it would be very inconvenient for him,” and offered to pay her rent for a year, but on the condition that she sign a strict non-disclosure agreement. The terms of the contract, which included a fine of $500 thousand for the slightest violation, seemed unfair to Taryn, and through her lawyer she offered Brian to pay her a one-time payment of $1 million, which made him furious. In the end, Taryn, exhausted from treatment and threats that Johnson would demand that he pay rent on the house they were renting, finally agreed to sign another agreement.
Later, when Southern went into remission, she nevertheless demanded financial compensation from Johnson through the court in the amount of lost work, lost prospects and psychological trauma. Her lawsuit stated that Johnson promised to be with her for the rest of his life and provide for her on the condition that she would help him achieve fame. However, the result of the trials was disastrous for Taryn. Because she had signed another contract with Johnson as his employee in the past, the court considered that document first. It all ended with Taryn being denied compensation and, in addition, she was ordered to pay Brian Johnson more than $500,000 in legal fees.
Johnson denies all accusations against him. According to him, he became a victim of the #MeToo movement.
“Now I have to pay a decisive amount for me to a man for whom I worked full time for four years for a modest salary, having believed in his promises. The man who abandoned me when I got cancer, who broke his promises of support, and bullied and manipulated me into signing an agreement that only benefited him,” Vanity Fair quotes Taryn as saying.
