"I'm not done living yet." Shannen Doherty opens up about her battle with cancer
Shannen Doherty opened up about her battle with stage 4 breast cancer in an interview with People. According to her, the disease has spread to the bones.
However, the 52-year-old actress, who is best known for her role in the TV series “Charmed,” said that she does not want to die.
"I'm not done living yet. I'm not done loving yet. I'm not done creating. “I’m not done hoping that everything will change for the better,” she says. "I'm just not... I'm not done yet."
She added that she hopes she can find love. "I don't think I'll be alone forever. I need to love myself and own up to my past before I can move forward, and now I'm pretty sure I'll meet someone - hopefully soon."
The actress is going to talk about her eight-year struggle with the disease, as well as her divorce from her husband, her attitude to life and much more, in the podcast “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty,” which will be created in the format of memoirs. Its premiere will take place on December 6.
The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. She then underwent a mastectomy and also underwent chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She reported being in remission in 2017, but the disease returned in 2019.
"When you start asking yourself, "Why me?" Why did I get cancer?” and then: “Why did the cancer come back?” Why am I in Stage 4?’ “It makes you look for a bigger purpose in life,” says Doherty.
The actress said that through her podcast she wants to raise awareness about the disease, as well as raise funds to find a cure. "It's crazy to me that we still don't have a cure."
