Anna Netrebko: "I'm not going to justify myself to anyone. I did not go against the Motherland and I will not go"
Opera diva Anna Netrebko has published a new video on social networks in which she commented on her position on the situation in Ukraine. I'm not going to justify myself to anyone in anything, but I need to clarify something. I did not go against my Homeland and I will not go, and for this there is no need to make any loud statements that everyone is demanding from us now. So what, you said that, then what? One half of humanity hated you, if you didn't say it, the other half hated you," she said in a video message.
She added that she and other stars are under strong pressure due to the current situation.
Life — it goes on. We must try not to succumb to hysterical attacks, pressure, because it is being exerted on us.
It is right for people like us, ordinary people, artists, not politicians, to live properly. And we will show them the only correct point of view and position that should be in such an abnormal situation. Earlier, the singer faced harsh criticism after her statement in which she spoke out against the Russian military special operation in Ukraine and said that she had no ties with the country's government.
After the start of the military special operation in Ukraine, foreign theaters suspended Anna Netrebko, as well as other Russian artists, because of their unwillingness to publicly condemn the actions of the Russian government. However, even after Netrebko published an appeal in which she spoke out against the special operation, not all theaters are ready to take it back. So, the director of the Metropolitan Opera said that he has not changed his decision yet.
