Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie officially divorced after 8 years of legal battles

Brad Pitt, 61, and Angelina Jolie, 49, have reached an agreement to end their divorce after eight years of ongoing legal battles, Page Six reported, citing the actress's lawyer.

“More than eight years ago, Angelina filed for divorce from Brad Pitt. She and her children left their home with her husband and has since dedicated herself to finding peace and healing for her family. This is part of an ongoing process that began eight years ago. Frankly, Angelina is exhausted, but she feels relieved that this matter is over,” the lawyer said.

According to the publication, the celebrities officially filed for divorce on December 30.

Let us recall that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie met on the set of the film “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” in 2005. Pitt was then married to Jennifer Aniston, but the couple broke up that same year. Pitt and Jolie began an affair, and in 2006 they had a daughter, Shiloh, and in 2008, twins Vivienne and Knox Leon. The couple also has three adopted children: Maddox, Pax, and Zahara. Only in 2014, Jolie and Pitt got married in the south of France, but two years later, Angelina filed for divorce.

At the time, the actress cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the divorce, but later she accused Pitt of using physical force against her and the children. The point of no return for the couple was an incident on board a private flight, when Brad, according to Angelina, while intoxicated, hit one of the children in the face and grabbed the other by the throat.

There is still no evidence of the actor's abusive behavior, but it is worth noting that his and Angelina's children took their mother's side in the conflict between their parents. Some of them even publicly renounced their father's surname: Shiloh, Vivienne, and Zahara did so. Pax, in turn, called Pitt a "world-class asshole."

Despite the fact that Brad and Angelina have sorted out one problem, they will continue to sue over the Chateau Miraval in France, which they purchased in 2008. The conflict arose because Jolie sold her share of the winery to Russian billionaire Yuri Shefler. From Pitt's point of view, she had no right to do this, since before the marriage the couple had agreed not to sell their shares to third parties without mutual consent.
