Austin Butler to Star in New 'American Psycho' Adaptation
Austin Butler will play the lead role in a new adaptation of the 2000 cult horror film American Psycho, directed by Luca Guadagnino, Variety reports. Previously, there were rumors that the role went to Jacob Elordi.
Butler, 33, will play Patrick Bateman, a Wall Street banker and serial killer previously played by Christian Bale. The new adaptation is directed by Luca Guadagnino, known for Call Me by Your Name, A Bigger Splash, Suspiria, and the recently released The Pretenders and Queer.
Guadagnino noted that the new "American Psycho" will not be a simple remake of the 2000 horror film directed by Mary Harron, but will be his own reimagining of the cult novel by Bret Ellis.
Back in 2023, Luca Guadagnino and Jacob Elordi were spotted having lunch in Venice. Rumors then began to circulate that the role in American Psycho had gone to the Euphoria star. Many fans of the film expressed their approval of this, as in their opinion, the actor was perfect for the role and had recently radically changed his image, becoming similar to Christian Bale. After the news of Austin Butler's appointment, many users expressed their indignation on social media and asked to return to considering Elordi's candidacy.
