"I keep hearing different versions of what exactly is wrong with me." Ariana Grande speaks out about criticism of her appearance
Ariana Grande has spoken out on the YouTube show "Oui Oui Baguette" about the comments about her weight and appearance, which have increased since her appearances on the press tour for the musical "Wicked." The network believes that the 31-year-old star has exhausted herself and looks sickly.
"I've always felt like a specimen in a petri dish when I perform in public. And since I was 16, I've been constantly hearing different versions of what's wrong with me. And then you try to fix it, which is also wrong," Grande said, barely holding back tears.
According to Ariana Grande, it's often difficult for young stars to shield themselves from this noise, no matter the scale. "Even if you're just going to Thanksgiving dinner and someone's grandma is like, 'Oh my God, you look skinny, what happened?' or 'Oh my God, you've gained weight, what happened?' it's still terrifying."
Ariana said people shouldn't comment on others' looks and health. "People talk about it so easily, but I think it's really dangerous — for everyone involved. I'm really lucky to have the support of [my loved ones]," she added, noting that she "knows and believes" she's beautiful.
The singer has previously been criticized for being too thin. A year ago, Grande's followers were alarmed by the fact that her collarbones and cheekbones began to protrude unnaturally in photos. Ariana herself then stated that the photos in which she allegedly "looks healthier" were taken during one of the worst periods of her life. According to the star, at that time she ate poorly and took antidepressants, which is why she looked different.
Grande, who has Italian roots, is also often accused of cultural appropriation - haters believe that she deliberately wants to look Asian. In addition, critics believe that the star has had plastic surgery - she changed the shape of her nose, the area around her eyes and lips.
The actress's personal life also becomes a reason for criticism: she began dating actor Ethan Slater, who left his wife and small child for her.
