Queen Camilla diagnosed with respiratory infection
Queen Camilla has been diagnosed with a respiratory infection. The wife of the King of Great Britain is forced to take a break from her duties: doctors have strongly advised the 77-year-old Queen to rest, so all planned events with her participation have been cancelled.
"It is with great regret that Her Majesty must step back from her duties this week but she very much hopes that she will make a full recovery in time," Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
The Queen will not be able to attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance memorial garden at Westminster Abbey, where she will be replaced by the Duchess of Gloucester. Camilla will also miss a reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes at Buckingham Palace.
The royal family has already been under intense scrutiny in recent months. Earlier this year, it was revealed that King Charles III was battling cancer, forcing him to take a temporary break from public life. The monarch returned to work in the spring but continues to undergo treatment. It was later revealed that 42-year-old Kate Middleton has also been diagnosed with cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy. The Princess of Wales recently revealed that she has completed chemotherapy and is back to exercising.
The king and queen completed a nine-day tour of Australia and Samoa late last month. On their way back, the couple stopped in India, where they relaxed at a prestigious spa hotel known for its wellness programs, yoga and Ayurvedic treatments.
