"Trying to prove something to someone." Jane Fonda warned Jennifer Lopez that her marriage to Ben Affleck was "doomed"
Jennifer Lopez's "Monster in Law" co-star Jane Fonda warned the singer that her marriage to Ben Affleck was "doomed" due to excessive publicity early on, the DailyMail reports.
According to 86-year-old Fonda, Lopez is trying to prove something to someone instead of just enjoying herself. "It bothers me. It's like you're trying too hard to prove something instead of just living. Every other picture you're kissing, hugging," Fonda told Jennifer.
Lopez's attitude towards the whole situation made Fonda worry that Jennifer would be subjected to a wave of hate due to her excessive publicity, and that this would threaten her relationship. Fonda expressed her concerns when Lopez offered to star in her documentary, in which she talks about her relationship, among other things. Lopez did not listen to her and persuaded her long-time colleague to star in the show.
At the same time, it is the publicity that is said to have caused problems in the marriage of 54-year-old Lopez. The attention to their couple destroyed their relationship back in the 2000s, when they wanted to get married and broke off the engagement. Affleck stated in an interview that he compromised for the sake of his wife and appeared with her in public, although he does not like attention to himself. Apparently, it was this compromise that led to problems in the marriage.
According to other sources, the couple's relationship was affected by the fact that 51-year-old Affleck began to abuse alcohol again. The actor had problems with alcohol before, in his previous marriage. Thus, he said in an interview that he began drinking precisely because of problems in his marriage with his ex-wife, because he was unhappy with Jennifer Garner, after which he faced criticism from the public.
