Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior members of the British Royal Family on March 31, 2020, and lost the ability to officially represent the monarch on travel, perform ceremonial duties and use the titles of Their Highnesses. The UK Home Office also refused to provide Prince Harry with police protection during his visits to the UK, but the prince's lawyers filed an appeal. According to them, the British authorities should have carried out an analysis of the risks associated with such a decision. The prince's representatives noted that such an approach towards Harry is “unlawful and unfair”, and if the Duke of Sussex was injured during the attack, the British royal family would suffer significant reputational damage. It is clarified that Harry can count on protection at the expense of taxpayers, but it will not be provided automatically - we are talking about measures that are developed specifically for him.

London's High Court ruled that the Home Office had committed no "procedural injustice".

Earlier it became known that Harry is ready to return to royal duties during the illness of his father, King Charles III. However, the king himself and his brother Prince William have a different opinion - they believe that it is worth adhering to the decision that Queen Elizabeth made in 2020. She decided that Harry should completely relinquish his responsibilities as a working member of the royal family and commit to not using his title for commercial purposes.
