Cindy Crawford became the heroine of the cover and cover story of the January issue of Harper's Bazaar Singapore. In an interview, the 90s supermodel spoke about her own success, inspiration and her most memorable show. The 57-year-old model took part in a shoot for a fashion publication and posed for photographer Yu Tsai in looks from Givenchy, Dior, Max Mara, Saint Laurent, Alexander McQueen and other brands.
Last year, Cindy became one of the heroes of the documentary series “Supermodels,” in which she starred along with colleagues and friends Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington. Crawford said her time with them was one of the best parts of working on the project. "I enjoyed hearing the stories and memories of each of them. Of course, I was very touched by everything that Linda went through. I also learned a lot from Naomi's story. Even though I was there at the same time, listening to Naomi explain that she was often paid less than other models was painful and a reminder that we all need to stick together to be inclusive."
“A lot of the success of a model is looking the right way at the right time. But I think some of the things that have also contributed to my success are being on time and being prepared. I also realized that modeling is a skill and you can improve at it.”
In the 90s, Cindy was not just a world-class model, but also a successful entrepreneur. She managed to turn her name into a brand before many others learned how to do it. Crawford not only walked the runway, but released an exercise video, a makeup book, a movie, was friends with brands and built a career on television. “It wasn’t conscious at first, but as my career progressed, I found that companies like Pepsi and Omega were willing to invest in me and maintain long-term relationships, as opposed to those who always want the latest hot model. I've been with Omega for almost 30 years, and being on MTV's House of Style has helped expand my audience."
Today, Cindy leads a measured life and carefully approaches the choice of filming and projects. “I'm inspired by the laid-back lifestyle of Los Angeles, travel, the beach and being outdoors, and my daughter Kaia. It was very interesting to look into the world of fashion again with her!” Crawford, who is married to Rande Gerber and has a son, Presley, is trying to devote more time to her hobbies. "I am most interested in living a balanced life. Time for family, friends, work, philanthropy and yourself. I want to continue to learn and grow and take time to slow down and enjoy everything I have."
The supermodel, who has worked with famous designers and photographed by top photographers for more than thirty years, has found it difficult to single out one memorable moment in her career. And Cindy always has the best time with her famous friends. “The most memorable show, without a doubt, was the Versace show in 1991, where Christie, Linda, Naomi and I did the final walk to the song Freedom by George Michael. It was one of those moments when you realize he's special... even while it's happening."
