Guram Gvasalia accused Kanye West of plagiarism
VETEMENTS creative director Guram Gvasalia accused Kanye West of plagiarism.
Recently, for the first time since the termination of the deal with adidas, Kanye West's YEEZY brand introduced new shoes - the YZY PODS model, which is very reminiscent of ordinary socks. The release immediately caused a stir online for two reasons.
Firstly, the hype is due to the price tag - the cost of one pair of YZY PODS is $200. This pricing caused confusion among many Internet users. “$200 for socks? This is madness,” people wrote on social networks.
Guram Gvasalia added fuel to the fire. On his Instagram page* he posted photos of shoes created by the VETEMENTS brand, which are very similar to the YEEZY creation. “Original socks-sneakers, invented by VETEMENTS in 2019. Beware of fakes,” the designer signed the post, clearly referring to the words of Kanye, who, when opening pre-orders for YZY PODS, also asked buyers to “beware of fakes.” In addition, Gvasalia added the hashtag #nothing beats the original.
Earlier, Guram Gvasalia publicly accused his brother Demna of plagiarism. After Guram was not invited to the Balenciaga show, which was opened by the brothers’ mother, the designer posted a photo of a VETEMENTS product on Instagram*, pointing out that Demna copied his design.
