A fight on stage, Will Smith's tears and a minute of silence in support of Ukraine: the main moments of the Oscar-2022 Award
In the USA, the ceremony of awarding the winners of the Oscar film award has ended. Will Smith and Jessica Chastain took their first statuettes in their careers, and Billie Eilish won the award for best soundtrack. The best film was the picture "CODA: The Child of Deaf parents", but the film "The Power of the Dog", with 12 nominations, received only one award — it was taken by the director of the film Jane Campion. It's time to take stock of this event — Musthub has collected the highlights of the 94th Oscar ceremony.
Beyonce's performance and Billy Ailish's triumph
This year, the "Oscar" did without covid restrictions. In addition, for the first time in four years, the ceremony was hosted by the hosts - guests were entertained by Regina Hall, Amy Schumer and Wanda Sykes. The evening began with a performance by Beyonce, who sang the song "Be Alive", which is the soundtrack to the movie "King Richard".
During the show, the audience was shown a video that Beyonce shot on the tennis court where Serena and Venus Williams trained — the picture is dedicated to their stories. However, the prize for the best soundtrack was taken by Billie Eilish, who sang at the ceremony the song No Time To Die from the eponymous part of Bond.
A fight on stage and an emotional speech by Will Smith
There were scandals at the ceremony. Comedian Chris Rock allowed himself a joke from the stage about the short haircut of Will Smith's wife Jada, which he compared to Jane's soldier. However, the actor's wife has her own reasons to get a short haircut — Jada has repeatedly admitted that she suffers from alopecia.
The actor did not tolerate this and went up on stage, where he hit the comedian in the face and demanded not to say his wife's name. At this point, the broadcast was interrupted for a while. Later in his speech, he apologized to the Film Academy and other nominees for this situation.
The media, however, doubted that the conflict was real and suspected the organizers of trying to raise the ratings of the show.
When Will Smith took to the stage for the second time to pick up his first Oscar for his role in the film "King Richard", he could not hold back tears and made an emotional speech.
Richard Williams (the father of tennis players Serena and Venus Williams, whose role was played by Smith - Ed.) was a worthy defender of his family. In my life, I am now filled with the love that God has called me to share. The most important thing for me is to love people, protect them, be a river for my people.
You can tolerate insults, but you can drive people crazy. You should be able to ignore the fact that people don't respect you. You have to smile and pretend that everything is fine.
He also expressed gratitude to the Williams sisters for entrusting their story to him.
Actions in support of Ukraine
A minute of silence was held at the ceremony in support of Ukraine. A splash screen with the text appeared on the screen:
Although cinema is an important way for us to express our humanity during the conflict, the reality is that millions of families in Ukraine need food, medicines, clean water and emergency assistance. Resources are scarce, and we, as a global community, can do more. We ask you to support Ukraine in all possible ways.
The guests of the ceremony also spoke in support of Ukraine. Composer Diane Warren, actress Yoon Ye Jung, director Pedro Almodovar, and Jason Momoa appeared on the track with yellow and blue ribbons, and Benedict Cumberbatch again came out with a badge in the colors of the flag of Ukraine.
The day before, actor and director Sean Penn, who visited Ukraine after the start of the military special operation, called for President Vladimir Zelensky to be allowed to speak at the award ceremony and even promised to boycott the Oscar in case of refusal. Despite Sean Penn's request, the Ukrainian president was not given a word at the ceremony.
The first ever "Audience Oscar"
This year, the organizers decided to give the audience the right to choose for the first time. The first ever "audience Oscar" was awarded to the film "Army of the Dead" by Zack Sniper. The winner was chosen by voting.
Hans Zimmer 's reaction
Not all winners attended the award ceremony. So, composer Hans Zimmer, who received an Oscar today for the music for the film "Dune", learned about his award from Amsterdam, where he is on vacation. He tweeted:It's two in the morning in Amsterdam and my daughter Zoey woke me up to go to the bar." Wow!
By the way, this is the second statuette for the composer — he received the first award for the music for the film "The Lion King".
Timothy Chalamet in a jacket on a naked body and other stars on the red carpet
The guests on the carpet this time preferred shades of pink. Men mostly preferred black formal tuxedos, but some decided to move away from the dress code. So, Timothy Chalamet refused a shirt and a tuxedo and went out on the red carpet in a shiny jacket with lace on the sleeves, which he put right on his naked body.
Zoey Kravitz appeared in a pink Saint Laurent dress with open shoulders and a bow in the neckline area.
Jessica Chastain appeared in a floor-length dress studded with gold and lavender sequins.
Zendeya appeared at the ceremony in an image from Valentino — a long silver skirt and a short white shirt. The image was complemented by silver bracelets on both hands.
The image of Billie Eilish in a voluminous black dress with ruffles and a long train also attracted attention.
Many stars posed on the track with their spouses or lovers who came to support them. So, Kristen Stewart, who was left without a statuette this time, came along with her fiancee Dylan Mayr, Will Smith was accompanied by his wife Judd, and Benedict Cumberbatch was supported by his wife Sophie Hunter. Actor Bradley Cooper also appeared accompanied by a loved one — his mother came out on the carpet with the actor.
